Duni goes Wacken: Sustainable packaging solutions for the metal festival

When a field is transformed into a festival site, a village of 2,000 souls becomes a metal metropolis and bellowing meets pleasure, it can only mean one thing: It's August and the legendary Wacken Open Air Festival is in full swing.
We at Duni were "part of the legend" in 2024 and, together with Wacken, set an exclamation mark for a sustainable festival industry. This reference story reveals what our packaging has to do with this and what is "Everygastro's darling" on the food court.

It's a spectacle like no other: The Wacken Open Air Festival. As one of the biggest heavy metal festivals in the world, it attracts tens of thousands of fans around the globe every year. For several days and nights, people party, shout, drink and eat to loud music. The bass booms, the beer flows and food stalls are besieged. After the gig is before the pleasure. But sustainably, please! That's why Wacken has also encouraged its food stands to serve their delicious creations in a particularly environmentally friendly way and has opted for Duni's portfolio. This is how heavy mhhh-etal works today!

"We have been making a lot of adjustments in terms of sustainability for years - in line with our vision of a climate-neutral festival. One of these adjustments is the use of PFAS on the food court. To this end, we have teamed up with Duni and offer the food stands a wide range of innovative, sustainable boxes, trays and the like that do not use this group of chemicals"

Anyone who has literally had enough of tinned ravioli will be delighted by the wide range of food on offer at the more than 150 food stands at the W:O:A. From juicy burgers and crispy chips to cheesy pizzas: everything is on offer. No matter what the metalhead chooses - it has to be well packaged. After all, the food has to survive the trip to the camping ground undamaged. As a packaging partner, we have dressed up the culinary delights in Wacken.

Except for a few weeks a year, cows graze on the Wacken grounds and the grain grows in competition with the weeds. So it's no wonder that the festival pays particular attention to its ecological footprint and wants to keep its Holy Ground "green". The W:O:A is "loud at work to make a change" and was therefore the first festival ever to take the initiative to curb the use of food packaging containing PFAS on the food court.

For over 75 years, Duni has been bringing a "good food mood" wherever people eat, drink and celebrate. Of course, we don't even stop at huge events like the W:O:A. We are firmly convinced: Good food should not be ruined by bad packaging. That's why we offer the most sustainable solution for every need in terms of the circular economy. From practical reusable solutions to environmentally sensitive packaging made from plant-based or recycled or recyclable raw materials. Whether cup, box or bowl - the products are sustainable AND practical.

Make sure that the packaging does not contain any additional PFAS.
Opt for packaging made from recyclable and renewable raw materials, such as bagasse or grass paper.
Test in advance whether the packaging is suitable for the portion size.
Try out in advance whether the packaging can be filled, closed and opened quickly.
Check the packaging to make sure it is leak-proof and grease-resistant.
